A rural IL kids chances at H,P,Dart, UChi, Rice, ETC.

more shamelesssssss bumppppppinnngggg

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3403589/site/newsweek/

you might want to read that

Thanks for the link. Yeah, basically all you knowledgable CCers are my "guidance counselor", no offense at all to my real one. I'd be totally lost without this site.

I think if you can raise your SAT score to over a 2200, make sure your essays are really strong, you have an OK shot at getting in. Possible downsides to your application: clubs seem centered around music, little diversity, and your hours are really stretched, colleges will probably see through that... Make sure you get some good SAT IIs. For a little nitpicking- take reading of summer activities, it doesn't count... also Georgetown and Emory should be reach-matches...

Thanks. Yeah I prolly won't get to visiting Emory, and they really want you to be interested, so that definitely gets bumped up, and probably Georgetown unless my scores get up.

Next question: Even if I do get my SAT Is up and my SAT IIs are good, should I even bother thinking about Princeton or Harvard? Even ED or SCEA?

And also: Any suggestions for matches? I don't really have any except UVA, unless perhaps Case Western should be moved up there?

depends on how high up. Also, your ENTIRE application must be strong. A friend of mine had an amazing app, but his essay was only decent, with some shameless plugs for EC offices he held etc etc. He got deffered at Harvard ED. You need to make sure you have an overall strong application.

those don't seem unreasonable anymore, especially when a lot of them you spend a lot of time on, but for not many weeks. Good edit

Thanks. I think I could probably adjust down some my 4-H too, but we'll see.........i'm a good few months out from worrying about that anyways.

yeah, you're definately on your way to doing well

Thanks again. I'd like some more specific info though, like this, for example, which is where I think I'm at.

In at all my safeties, probably in at UVA and Case Western, a good chance at Gtown, Emory, a fighting chance at Rice, Chicago, Dart, and pretty much no chance at Princeton and Harvard, maybe a bit of a chance if I did SCEA or ED.

Does this sound right?

More bumpity bump bump bumping

LOL @ Your deflated members - who are you trying to impress - some random forum goers?

If you send that exaggerated laundry list in your 1st post to any college they will be sure to defer you because you make yourself seem like you do more community service then Mother Teresa while staying a strong academic candidate.

LMAO yeah well, i dunno, i was just kinda going to the high end of my estimates...........lol i do like no community service, and i didn't list much either

I dunno it almost felt like I HAD to inflate things to look anywhere near the people that got in (looking at EA and ED threads)

you can lie and exaggerate but be reasonable man these college admission officers are getting tons of apps and they will be able to tell

What I am telling you - their is nothing wrong with lying, but do it correctly.

Although your ECs aren't insanely good, and it still looks like a laundry list, your ECs are still good enough that they shouldn't be a problem anywhere you apply - NOW MY DECISION BREAKDOWN

The schools that are definitely on the list (maybes are in parentheses):
Uber-Reaches:
Harvard-deffered/rejected
Princeton-deffered/rejected

Reach-Matches:
Dartmouth-deffered/rejected
UChicago-accepted (possibly money)
Rice (will apply Interim Decision)- accepted (questionable)
(WUSTL) - could go either way- i'd say defer/rejected

Matches:
Georgetown-In
UVA-In
(Emory)-IN

Safeties:
UMaryland-in
American-in
Case Western-in
(UIUC)-in
(George Washington)-deffered because you are too good for the school

Thanks - That's what I was looking for. So no chance at Dartmouth ED? Or H or P under their respective early programs?

And how is it that I could get money from Chicago?

O myyyyy! My PRECIOUS thread is getting near the bottom of page one! more bumpage! more bumpage!

blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa someone else please gimme a rundown of where i can get in and where i can't
