How hard is it? How easy is it? When can I do it? Can I do it before school begins? Etc

I too am interested in doing this. I have been accepted to CAS and plan on majoring in physics but i’m not sure if i would also enjoy engineering as I have never had an engineering course. Is it possible to cross majors? For example, if i wanted to major in mathematics at CAS could i also major in mechanical engineering?

I was accepted for Computer Science, but I would like to switch my major to CS/CEngineering/Electric Engineering/etc.

You can’t double major across colleges.

If you wish to switch colleges, you’ll have to wait until you get to Cornell. It’s called an internal transfer and there are many thread that discuss this option :)

Yeah lol I’ve been researching this for the last few days so I have a little bit of info:
You can apply for the internal transfer after your first semester, but if you get it it won’t go into effect until your second year.
If you’re SURE you want to do this talk to your counselor and they’ll plan your schedule around it.
I’m not sure how difficult COE is though I’ve only researched CALS.
Yeah you can’t do it before school starts, sucks =/

Transferring to Engineering isn’t too bad, but its good that you know that you want to do it already. When you get to campus in the fall, make sure to tell your arts and sciences advisor that you plan on switching and MOST IMPORTANTLY make sure you set up an appointment with the Engineering Advising office. They will be a GREAT resource on the right classes to choose and the process you need to go through to transfer. They will probably have you enroll in standard classes engineering students take freshmen year and they will tell you what grades you are expected to get. Its not too hard of a process, but its important that you talk to the right people.

you actually can double major between CAS and COE. But it is difficult and usually requires 5 years.

For CS, the majors in COE and CAS are exactly the same (same required classes for the major) but the classes outside of the major you take are different. So for example, CS in CAS has to complete a language requirement and other things to complete the BA.

Just to clarify vivace13’s post.

You cannot major across CAS and COE

What you can do is get a dual degree. Which entails getting a BA in something in CAS and BS in something in Engineering. This program requires you to pretty much know you want to do it from the start to begin planning, and usually takes 5 years+ to complete.
