a serious question about AP courses

I am currently in AP comp sci. My teacher is making us decide for second semester if we are going to take the AP test or not. If we do want to take the AP test, we have to tell him, and he will start to drill us with practice exams which will count toward our grade. He said it himself that if we decide to take it we will most likely end up with B’s. Another alternative is not to take the test at all, but just do projects for the rest of the year. We have to make a decision, and once you are in one of the groups, you can’t switch. He won’t accept checks at the end of the year if you decide to do the projects and just take it anyway.
So my question is, should I take a B in the class so that I can at least try the exam? Or should I continue to get an A and not take the exam at all? Which one looks worse?

take the class, do the work and get an A
my teacher said the same thing for my comp sci course when we switched to "AP mode"
just get the barrons book stick it out, its really not too difficult, especially if its just A

Why the hell would you most likely end up with B's?

cuz our school's comp sci sux..... btw its AB
comp sci is the bane of my existence

Just do it. A lot of teachers intimidate their students with grandiose speeches in the beginning of the school year about how their course is going to rape everybody and how F is an average, and it's never true. Even if you get a B average, it's not a big deal. Get the Barron's book and get a good AP score.
