A shot at Emerson?

As a a Junior in high school, I'll go ahead and preface this by saying that I eventually hope to major in screenwriting (Writing for Film and Television), which I know is slightly more competitive. That being said:

STATS:
African American / Female
GPA: 3.68 (uw) 3.89 (w)
SAT: 1990 (CR: 700, M: 550, W: 740) - to be taken again
All Honors, 5 APs thus far (9 by the time I graduate)

ECs:
National Honors Society
Library volunteer (2 years)
Published poetry through my English teacher
GSA member (2 years)
Chess club member (2 years)
Creative writing club member (1 year)
Poetry club (2 years)
Latin Club (2 years)
Keyettes (3 years)
Paid video-manager of a local basketball team
Writing group at local library
Performed in student-directed one acts
(Will) direct a play my senior year
Youth Girls's basketball coach
Girlscout Camp counselor (6 years)
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society volunteer (3 years)

In addition, I've had the opportunity to travel to every continent with the exception of Antarctica, won the Animal Sciences category of my school's science fair, and attended the Young Writers Camp at Duke University as a rising Junior.

Writing (in addition to film) is my absolute passion, so essays shouldn't be a problem -- and as I'm super close to both my English and APUSH teachers, I've got high expectations for my recommendation letter. Is this a fair shot for me?

Emerson: Match

Bump! Anyone?

Definitely a match. I got in with an 87 uw/93 w and a 1770 SAT. My list of EC’s was less impressive and I didn’t stick with many of them for more than a year. I applied for a less competitive field though.

I can tell you that Emerson is a place where everybody is very passionate about what they do. They look for that passion in their applications so from now until when you apply take as many opportunities as you can to do activities in your intended major. You already demonstrate your interest with your EC’s but you can always take it a step further. If I were you I’d include a sample script or something in your application because worse case scenario - they don’t even look at it. Demonstrate your talent to them!

I applied for Writing, Literature & Publishing which is a FANTASTIC program so if you have an interest in writing you might want to check that out because on the application you can list a first and second choice major. Meaning you could get into WLP (less competitive) and take classes that relate to Writing for Film and Television or switch majors once you get there.

Good luck!
