A strange situation (conservatory)

Hey guys,

As of right now I attend a theater conservatory, Cornish College of the Arts, in Seattle. The theater program is very demanding. However, I feel overworked and unfulfilled. Theater is my passion, but I want to be challenged on all levels including intellectually. I am considering transferring to a liberal arts and sciences school where I can participate in theater while being able to take more rigorous classes. We are required to take humanities and science classes outside of our major, however because they are pass/fail no one takes them seriously. There is no campus here, and the urban environment is rough. The theater department is “sectioned” so you take ALL of your classes with the same 10-15 people. Although this helps with ensemble building it makes it almost impossible to meet people outside of your section/department. There are also very few, if any, student activity groups. I am terrified that people will not accept transfers from conservatory, and if they do that my credits will not transfer.

I didn’t have stellar h.s. grades (see below) because I had a lot of other obligations (my mother was sick, and we were evicted) but I am a dedicated person (after eviction I moved in with my dad and my GPA raised to 3.7) and have great marks here and recommendations.

I am just looking for some unbiased feed back:
Are these valid reasons for transferring?
Does anyone have experience/advice for transferring out of a conservatory? What schools should I be looking into?
Are there are precautions/steps I should be taking?

Looking at: Sarah Lawrence. Vassar (reach ! I have a lot of legacy). Smith. Hobart and William Smith. I’m not applying to a safety, because worse comes to worse, I could stay at Cornish.

H.S. GPA 3.0 unweighted. It’s too soon to know my current GPA, but based on my tests thus far I’m guessing around a 3.8? I retook the ACT a few weeks ago, and am still waiting the results. Got a 25 last time, hoping to raise it to a 30 (what I got on the practice test)

H.S. extracurricular: drama club president, school newspaper, one voice community outreach choir, Chicago swing dance society, ballroom dancing, that one group improve comedy troupe

Sorry! I know this is long. I’m just scared, and because my current school is so small (under 1000) it’s hard to know who to talk to. I don’t want to step on any toes.

Thanks!

anyone? I know not many people will have experience but, anything might help.

Your reasons for transfer are definitely valid, but it will be a tough row to hoe if you don't have real, high grades to show your target schools. And getting transfer credit might indeed be a problem if your courses weren't serious.
