A Summary of USNWR Engineering Rankings

If a student is focused on the top engineering schools in America, there is a long list of terrific schools. In all, 50 schools received a ranking by academics in at least one of the 12 disciplines ranked by USNWR (Aerospace, Agricultural, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical Engineering Science, Environmental, Industrial/Manufacturing, Materials, Mechanical).

Following is a listing of the 24 schools that were ranked in 5 or more programs and the strength of the ranks that they achieved in these areas:

School, # of ranked eng departments, average rank

USC, 5, 19.80

where is University of Maryland, College Park?

U Maryland-CP had two ranked programs (10th-Aerospace, 17th-Computer). I only listed the schools that ranked in 5 or more different areas of engineering.

Hawkette, could you add what were the specific programs that were ranked for each school. It would be nice to know.

U Maryland College Park seems to be better respected by US News for its graduate engineering programs than undergrad. I am not sure why. I wonder if anybody has any insight into why the grad and undergrad engineering rankings are so different at Maryland.

In the US News PhD rankings, Maryland is ranked in the top 25 in 5 areas and two more programs are ranked between 25 and 35.

Aerospace 11
Electrical 16
Computer 18
Civil 20
Mechanical 24
Materials 31
Chemical 34
