A summer job for a high school graduate?

I'm looking for a job over the summer just to make some extra cash and gain some experience right before college. The problem is, I have no idea where I'd work. Sure, I could probably get a job at the local supermarket or fastfood place, but I'm a bit spoiled. See, last summer I had a wonderful paid internship at a biotech research company in CA, and I know that I probably won't be able to get something like that again...but I do want something that's a step up from working at a cash register or serving food. I dont expect to get paid a lot or have anything like I did last year, but I was wondering where I could find a job or internship at some sort of office or company (preferably biology/research related). I don't even mind working as a secretary or assistant, but do you think it would be possible to find something like this? Am I being too unrealistic? And where exactly would I find such a job?

Have you noticed the current economy? Your best chance is to try people you know. Few will be paying high school kids, even those headed to Harvard, to do much of interest this year.

Are you near a university that does research?

If you want to do something that is going to deliver experiences that you want you will probably have to volunteer for it these days.

If you can't research based stuff I would consider something more humanitarian; like volunteer at church.

Or spend the summer writing an App for I-phone (never know, it could pay for college)

.

Where are you?

Yeah, I know the economy is terrible, which is why I am worrying even more. I live in MA and I did research at URI last year, and as much as I loved it, I really want some extra cash and doing stuff on a volunteer basis just won't do me any good.

What about secretarial positions at doctors offices? Do they hire 18 year old high school grads? Or do you need some sort of higher degree for that?
