A terrible student want advice for transferring to USC

I was never a disciplined student. I went to a top public high school in NYC purely because I passed the admissions test. I never really was interested in school. I cut school a lot, I never paid any attention in class and I just didn't want to do the homework. In the end, all my non hard work paid off and I barely graduated with a 73 average.

Ever since then I've been trying really hard to understand what my situation is and what the future will bring. I didn't consider the consequences of my actions until it was too late. My life is heading for disaster unless I do something to change the trajectory.

The questioning of my life helped me decide to become a Mechanical Engineer. It has one of the highest starting salaries and is one of the most versatile professions out there. USC has a Mechanical Engineering program that focuses on Petroleum Engineering, which is another possible profession that I am thinking about being. At USC I can get the best of both worlds. Knowing where to end is the beginning of a change in direction. Now that I know where I want to end, I can plan how to get there.

USC satisfies all the needs I have, it is the absolute best match for me.

I want to transfer in as a junior, and this is precisely what I need advice on.

How can somebody like me change myself to be an applicant with a strong chance of transferring two years down the line?

Get a high college GPA and get involved. After 30 credits, USC will solely consider your college records I believe.

It is unwise to target any one school for transfer, as transfer admits can be limited. USC takes 70% of it’s transfers from the CCC and CSU system. If you do well you can get into many colleges, but often it doesn’t matter where you get your Mech E degree, just that you have one, so don’t let school name distract you from the goal.

Use this guide to make yourself USC ready (and you will be ready for other schools too):
