Freshman At USC want to transfer to somewhere along east or north east

I am a freshman at USC. I am majoring in mechanical and industrials engg. not very happy with the course over here, i am planning to transfer outof here after my sophomore year. Colleges i am looking at are

University of Michigan Ann Arbor
Purdue
Georgia Tech
Illinois Urbana Champaign
WPI
Penn State

Could anyone help me in finding more school which i can transfer into. and also give me insight on the school mentioned above as to how their reputation is and how the education is over there.

thanks

What exactly are you looking for in the school?

ummm...firstly should have a damn good engineering department which should be flexible, second the place should not be like LA..should be commutative..not like LA where if you dont have a car you re stuck in the College. the weather should be cold, n the college should focus more on applying the concepts in the real world rather than just studying them in books.
the thing i hatedabout USC was that the grad education is awesome but the mechanical engg at the undergrad level was lacking most courses which should ve been there.
and lastly i shouldnt be very hard to get into.

Maybe Northwestern. Illinois sounds like it would fit the bill.

Work your butt off to have a 3.0 in your math, science and engineering courses or your choices will be limited.

Also make friends with an engineering prof or two...you will need letters of rec.

What are your stats? It is difficult to recommend schools without knowing your SATs and your unweiged HS GPA and your current USC GPA. Also, if you tool any APs, let us know.

well..i didnt do very well in my semester..had a GPA of 2.7. Math, science , n engineering course grades were As n Bs..but my General education course got me down. What gpa should i keep so that i would get a shot at the school listed above. My SATs werent that good either, but i am planning to take them again this year in JUN. my earlier SAT score was 1160(680M, 480V).

Illinois is sweet, and one of the top 10 engineering departments in the country
