Hi! I’m currently a freshman at Tuskegee University with a full ride for four years and thought the school would be great for me (and my wallet), as it was my safety school. However, after this semester I’m really reconsidering transfer back in-state or to Auburn/Alabama as Tuskegee wasn’t a great fit for me.
Financially (I’m from GA), I’d still have the HOPE scholarship if I went in-state so I wouldn’t die from debt (but it’s nowhere as good as free) but I don’t love my school. I am debating whether or not I should transfer at all, transfer after my freshman year, or just transfer after my sophmore year. Any help would be great.
Without knowing the reason that you are dissatisfied at your current school, it is difficult to offer reasonable suggestions.
Personally, my school and I just don’t feel have the right “fit”. It’s in an awful location (to the point I don’t feel safe going out), the academic environment is not rigorous/studious, and the lack of diversity (more because of thought than race) is awful.
Hi! I was attending UTK, but I will be transferring to a school in the northeast starting the spring 2021 semester (have yet to decide on a school)! I attended UTK for the same reason you’re attending Tuskegee. I received a full-ride, but after a year, I realized that I was extremely unhappy in my environment and that it affected not only my mental health, but also my academic performance. I would highly recommend transferring if you feel uneasy at your school because your intuition is never wrong!
Good luck!!
