This wasn't what I expected. Desparately want to transfer!

A little background: back in high school, I applied to UGA, Auburn, Kennesaw State, and GA Southern. I applied to Auburn just because, it wasn't really my first choice. UGA was. I had a 3.7 GPA, 27 on the ACT (31 in English) so I really thought I would get in. But I didn't because they had filled up their admissions quota. I was upset that I didn't get in, but I did get into Auburn so I figured I could try and love that place.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been what I had hoped. First of all, they don't have housing for freshman. First come first serve. This really made things difficult because now I had to shop for an apartment which is VERY difficult to do when you live in a different state. Not to mention that fact that I have to plan my day around the transit schedule which is almost always late and takes time out of my day. And people usually meet most of their friends in the dorms. Needless to say that I haven't made any because I'm on the outside looking in. I have no idea when stuff is happening, plus there aren't any clubs that interest me out here.

But the worst part is the fact that all of these things keep getting me down and are affecting my academics. I start off each day positive, but then I see people hanging out together and it reminds me of how lonely I am and I no longer feel like doing any sort of studying.

Lastly, the tuition and other fees are rediculously high. We're paying over $28,000 plus the costs of the apartment and what not. My parents told me not to worry about money if I'm happy, but truth be told, I'm not happy. I think it's stupid for my parents to have to pay this kind of money if things aren't working out.

With that said, I've decided that it would be best for me to transfer. I really want to go to UGA. I feel like I should be there in the first place. They have the type of clubs I would want to join and are very competitive academically (I beleive U.S. News ranked them higher than Auburn). Plus, it would cost MUCH less, especially with the HOPE scholarship. The thing is that I looked up the admissions process on their website and they said that the deadline for transfer applications and transcipts is April 1. But my classes don't end till April 29.

So my questions are:
1. How/when should I transfer to UGA so that I can be there Fall of 2008? Is it even possible? (I'm REALLY hoping it is)
2. If I can't go to UGA, should I consider a smaller school?
3. If transferring ends up being undoable and I have to stay, would I qualify for in-state tuition since I lived off campus? (This is really the only way I can see myself staying)

I really want to make the best decision for myself and my future. If I have the info now, I can plan accordingly. Thank you in advance.

well since last time you applied it filled the admissions quote, you should apply real early so you get an early spot.

But what about the transcript thing? Will I be able to use those credits next semester even though they're not fully complete? Or would they ask for a complete transcript later?

Oh and does anyone know the transfer acceptance rate for UGA? I checked the sticky, but there wasn't one for UGA.

Much will depend on your Auburn GPA

Anyone else?

Oh forgot to mention:
-3.45 GPA (college)
-3.7 GPA (high school)
-Pre-Med student

I'm working on the application now and I'd like to know if I should go ahead and finish it.

Please, I really need help with this. I register for classes Thursday and this would help me decide what to take so I know what would transfer.

well according to collegeboard this is uga two years ago:

Transfer Students
Total number of transfer students who applied: 2,765
Total number of transfer students who were admitted: 1,491

Bron,
Pick up the telephone and call an admission rep! They know your classes aren't over...your transcript will only be partial. They do this for a living...they realize all this! Auburn offers so much of what UGA does; just a smaller scale. You can go make friends and meet people at so many different places. Honestly, you need to bloom where you are planted, whether you stay there long term or not. You are at a top notch school. Make the best of it, keep your grades up, and talk to an admission rep. Come home for a long weekend and go to Athens for a meeting w/ transfer admin reps to be sure you are completing the process. They are more than helpful up there!

I gues I could try that. I emailed them twice, but it seemed like they just copied and pasted what was on the website straight to the email.

Sorry if I've annoyed anyone. And beleive me, I really have tried to make friends out here. But sometimes, people do end up at the wrong place and need a change.
