a typical asian...a problem?

so i basically get A-A+ grades & dont do a lot of extracuricullar stuff
can i still get into a good college?

"good" is very relative. Which colleges in particular? But yes, I would think that you would have somewhat of a disadvantage cuz of that affirmative action thing.

hmmm not sure yet
maybe cornell?

if you don't win any research competitions(i.e intel)
will it still go on ur transcript that u did it?

I would highly recommend getting involved with extracirriculars even if it's just one thing you are passionate about and even if it's math club or something; it would help a lot. Colleges want students to contribute to their campus more than just showing up for lectures. Top tier schools like Cornell get more perfect SAT/ACT scores and perfect GPA's than they can or would want to accept.

a lot of people at my school only work on grades and SAT I and SAT II scores, but that's why many of them don't get into ivy league schools.

Typical A Asians do get into good schools. They also get rejected from some schools. So you may be rejected by berkeley and accepted
by cornell or vice versa. Depends on whether you can write a good
essay that isn't typical. Depends on whether your recommendations speak or your maturity, brilliance, and eagerness to help others and go beyond, or only your calculator skills. Typical Asian is fine, but to increase chances at HPYSM you want to supplement the grades. Do science Olympiad or something at least.

the science olympiad member, matheletes-member, slightly above-average violin and piano playing asian who gets good grades (A and A+) in the hardest courses available and has good SAT scores (2300+ and 750+ on SAT IIs) isn't going to get accepted everywhere (at least not at HYPSM) necessarily. you have to stand out. At places like cornell, maybe/decent shot at getting in.

What's worse is that you have to stand out among all the other typical Asians who applied, which is quite a lot.

You have good scores, and good grades. Well, everyone at ivys have those things. What sets you apart from those people? You NEED EC's for the top notch schools. ANY EC would help you. You can be a typical asian and still get into decent schools, but not the best dschools. If you want to be unique from asians, many things would set you apart from being a typical asian. A humanities club, or playing an instrument thats NOT violin or piano, service clubs, a sport, and much more.

thanx for the advice guys(:

Actually, not doing a lot of ECs would make you an ATYPICAL Asian applicant.

Plus, there are many, many Asian students who don't get good grades.
