A Typical Day as a Cal student

UC hats on telegraph is a major hyphy store...have seen NUMP!!!! and turf talk there recently. but pretty much you have to travel into oakland for those clubs

and you can drink at plenty of bars in san francisco without an id let alone with a fake one. and theres always kips, conviently located across from unit 3 haha...

get stupid dumb and HYPHY

It's funny that you say this, unlimitedx-

"And I LAUGH at you because you are making a impression on the social life of a university based on an online forum. "Oh, I decided not to go to UC Berkeley because I went to an online forum and I see that it lacks social acitivites." Say that out loud to someone and see how lame you sound."

because compare the Cal board to, say, brown or upenn and you'll find a drastically different atmosphere. It's at least partially representative.

It'd be nice if coming to this section wasn't so much like whiffing stale air ;).

Unlimitedx

The simple fact that you've gotten so senstive and defensive about the matter, rather than rebuking me with some smart, harmless joke certainly doesn't do well for the school image.

Like it or not, you're representing it.

Hang loose and chillax, brother.

He's just some guy on an internet forum, like you or me. Let's all relax together.

If the board isn't even "partially representative," why is anyone here?

wake up
go to class
sit on computer

"Like it or not, you're representing it."

I wasn't trying to represent the university. The point I wanted to get across is that some people seem to be making a critical judgment on a university based on how this forum "feels," which IMO is ridiculous.

Alright, let those people be.

first of all, i didn't get the idea of too much studying just from this forum. it WOULD have been too lame!!! i called up my friend who is a cal student, and she told me that fact. OK? second of all, why do some ppl have a big reaction? can't they accept other opinions other than their own? (like a liberal cal student?) it is no big deal

What if they aren't liberal Cal students? And what if only some people study all the time? There's a decent minority of people that some people, such as sakky, think study almost none of the time. Usually, things aren't so black and white here. Most people don't study all the time, and don't study none of the time. Where your friend lives, her major, her aspirations, her friends, and other factors greatly determine her idea of how people act, but like any other person, she has only a limited scope of the university.

ok, I got that idea in the first place by comparing cal with other schools. People label certain schools PARTY schools and not others for a reason u kno.

i said in another reply that i realize basically social life is the same everywhere, it depends on the person. So that is what I think now ok?
at least i am not a person who hang at some online forum all the time and take some confused n troubled kid's comment seriously >.<

Sure. No need to attack me now, is there? I"m trying to help you and other people see Berkeley in a more accurate light. Have your own ideas, but if they seem off, I'm going to tell you. At least you're not like me, though. Congratulations.

I don't know if the social life is basically the same everywhere, but perhaps. Some schools don't have any sort of large city nearby where people can go, for instance. Some places are like bubbles. Some places essentially encourage on campus drinking. Some places have no Greek system. But sure, basically the same.

An addendum to my earlier post:

7:00--go to Wheeler and sit three feet away for the best writer of his generation (Michael Chabon) while he reads a beautiful and funny short story. Feel inspired walking home.

Hmm, I probably should have gone to that.

drab: i was not talking about you: ) and i appreciate people who are sincerely here to help! cuz that's why i came here in the first place. And i sure have gotten a lot of knowledge (maybe biased? but o well) on lots of stuff. it's all good ;p

GentlemanandScholar,

I'm so jealous that you got to see Michael Chabon today. Amazing. I agree with your assessment; best writer of his generation. Been reading him since Mysteries of Pittsburgh, what 20 years now! Yikes?! My son went into SF in the fall to one of his book signings. Got to hear him read and got me a signed book. You are lucky!

You do whatever you need to do, whatever you want to do. I've barely even started studying today and it's 10 PM. Just make sure you know everything before the exams. If you work smarter, you won't have to work as much.

aim78 procrastinator?!

My day? Oh boy... Keep in mind this is averages, I'll include my schedule abroad too.

Normal Berkeley schedule on Wednesday:
7 AM - Get up, jog to the RSF for some weight lifting.
8:30 AM - Come back home, shower, look over notes for class or watch the news while eating a protein bar or bowl of cereal.
9:00/10:00 AM - out the door to class
11:30 AM - Lunch.
12:00 PM - Back to class.
3:00 PM, finish class, go home, study some.
5:30 PM, eat dinner.
6-8 PM, catch up on anything that needs to be done, otherwise skip to the next session.
8-12 PM/1 AM: Hang out, play videogames, watch TV, go out to get a snack or bars, depends what night of the week it is.

My schedule in Germany now:
8:00 AM -- wake up, realize sun has already been up for four hours.
9:00 AM -- ride my bike to my class for the day.
12:00 PM: Eat lunch.
1:00 PM -- come home, do exercises for my German as Foreign Language class later that day.
4:00 PM - Back to class
6:00 PM - back home, eat dinner, watch Simpsons in German.
9:00 PM - go to the student bar until midnight or one.

My life is pretty simple. Get up, exercise some, go to class, come home, study for a couple of hours, do various social things, bed. And I like it that way :)
