A VERY serious issue, i'm really bugged and armed about.

In my school, sophomore year for me, the school supposedly in words of my Math teacher, "Automatically signed up everyone for Saturday school". This was only to help those who needed it for certain subjects, and was never told that it was mandatory by anyone... Just optional help. Now a year after in my Junior year, my math teacher told me those who didn't go received a F on the transcript. Those who were unwilling to go and didn't go received a F for the Saturday "course". They told me that if we go, you can bring in a slip for extra credit in class, but never told me it was treated as a course...

Now the thing that erks me is that:

I don't think schools have the right to "automatically" sign you up for a weekend school WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT.

They never told me that you would get a grade for it, nor was it mandatory... The teachers claimed it was created for extra help for those who needed it.

I think this is illegal without my consent and my parents because i'm still under 18, and the fact that it's on my transcript means that colleges will see that F, and this is a really serious issue for me.

I have city marching band on Saturday mornings and would be unable to attend either way.

I would like some help on this issue and how I can solve this... Thanks.

PS. I'm working my ass off to cope with the extra works of AP classes (I have 3, which is the maximum my school lets a student, with honors classes and tons of extracurriculars that is related to music which is a passion subject) and to get good grades in them. Now with that F on the transcript, i'm really depressed and angry about it.

I took a college Economics class because my school said I would receive credit.

Two years later they said I was not getting the credit that was already on my transcript.

I am in Economics now.

I fought hard and no one cared.

With that said, where is the educational decree that makes Saturday school illegal? Just saying you didn’t want to go or thought because you were smart doesn’t cut it. If you mentioned band, IDK, last year, this would have been resolved.

Nobody was aware of the automatic sign up, and I believe to be signed up to something other then the monday-friday school without parental consent would be illegal. Especially since they didn’t tell me they were going to give grades for it… I’m really bugged about this, nobody told me anything about it either until a year later, so that was a double whammy.

I didn’t know I was going to be signed up for a before school 0 period class.

Why would you expect to take a class and not get a grade? Or skip a class for a year and expect to not have any consequences?

“I decided that I don’t like my 4th period math class so I’m just not going to go anymore. I think I’ll get an A.”

Lol (although i’m angry, i cant help but to laugh), if you read carefully, I did say that the teacher told me that Saturday school is an optional class for those who want extra help and a bit of extra credit for the regular classes mon-fri. Optional would be the key word. The teacher didn’t know at the time what type of class it was, and was misinformed. Now the heat is on the students for the schools mishaps. First thing was that I didn’t even sign up for what they gave me in what needed parental consent, and I wasn’t even informed of what I was being signed up for, as in the expectations and requirements. I feel cheated.

Sorry, I know you’re trying to help, but I’m really angry at the moment.

Did you bring this up above the teacher level? You should take it up the ladder as far as you can.

I’m a radical person who goes immediately to the 2nd highest authority, the state education department.

I’m planning to classicalbk, but i would like any real help or insight into this issue if possible. I feel cheated, and when Rosh Hashashna ends, i’m going to get my transcript and complain to the principle. If all doesnt end well, contact Board of Ed as a last resort. I go to a NY public school, and I really don’t see the reason why they would do this… As if they intentionally want to tarnish their reputation by giving students F’s…

You go to a NYC public school? Cool we have something in common! lol

Take it to the state! That is your best option.

Anything of this caliber, I would write a note or letter to the regional head of the state department of education.

But come on, its the NYCDOE! Can we not expect a serious f-up once a year lol? They’ve been a mess since I became a slave to the system (2000 or whenever I started k-5) lol
