There is a week off after final exams end and before spring semster begins.
Do most students go back home or stay on campus? Are the dining halls open?

One dining hall remains open, but you must sign up for a meal plan. For unlimited meal plan holders, this additional plan is free; otherwise, it’s $150 (in other words, not worth it–just eat out).

Most students go home, take a trip, or travel with a student group, but many stay on campus. (After all, Christmas break is only a few weeks earlier.) The same is true of other breaks as well.

I think I read there were around 1200 undergrads still on campus this week. I think most students are on the unlimited meal plan and they do need to sign up for the week (my son did).

Incidentallly we were there a couple weeks ago and ate at one of the dining halls with our son…the food was fabulous! Wow - nothing like we remember cafeteria food when we were in university!!
