AADA- going for acting American Academy of Dramatic Arts

I am not worried about my audition. I’m a strong actor. I have years of experience and training and have done professional, community, and regional theatre and have been in some indie films. But I had a health condition where I had to leave school for a year. I ended up having to get my ged, and I didn’t have very great grades to begin with. It was hard to catchup after being out so long. My gpa before I dropped out wasn’t even at 1.0. Will my grades hold me back and make them not accept me, even if I explain everything. This school means everything to me.

@“acting_Panda278@” good luck on your audition! grades aren’t always important to many bfa conservative programs. I’ve seen people get into NYU with a 2.5 gpa but had a ton of experience and wrote an outstanding resume. some people go through a lot more than others. Don’t worry so much! go in and do your thing and when you enter the room, leave your baggage outside of the door  It always works out in the end! BAL

Also, AADA is a two-year conservatory, not a college program, so they likely don’t weigh grades as heavily as a college program would.

To jump in and potentially clarify…@actingdreams - I just want to put out there that it would be EXCEPTIONALLY rare to get into NYU with a 2.5 GPA - b/c the acting and academic admits are separate. Obviously I don’t know the people you are referring to… and “never say never”, but I can only imagine it to be super unusual. I have heard of the Tisch people “going to bat” for someone they really want with a low GPA or test score, but there is only so much they can do. NYU’s website states that you must have a min. 3.0, and the average unweighted GPA for accepted students overall is 3.7

Now @“acting_Panda278@” - I believe the good news is that AADA acceptance is based entirely on audition, no academic weight - so break a leg and have a great audition!!

I attended AADA back in the 90s. Unless things have changed, there are no academics at all offered in their program and I don’t recall grades even being asked for. They only gave classes in acting, voice and dance, Shakespeare, etc.
