I just want to mention how this is the most horrifying experience of my entire life. Anybody that says teenagers are lazy and stupid should submit a college application in 2007 and THAT'LL SHOW 'EM. The ulcers that they get will be sufficient punishment for their silliness.

Try breathing, it helps. x) Everything will be okay.

how many schools did you apply to? i definitely overdid it... applied to way too many safeties, i don't even know why

I applied to only six, but most are reaches. Oh dear.

I did 10...

only 1 safety though... one which I don't really like. at all. oops.

5 matches

and 4 reaches.

Some matches could be more like safeties, but IDK. :-(

Are you all using fee waivers? 'Cause I could never afford to apply to ten colleges. Wow.

No i didn't. I don't think I would have qualified, but I suppose I could have at least tried.

Nonetheless, I'm moderately poor and need financial aid! That's next to stress me out. :-(

didn't use a fee waiver, but i certainly wish i could...over $1100 in app fees

Mine was only 560$

I applied to mostly schools with free apps. so my fees ended up only being $75 for 6 schools.
I definitely agree with the OP though!

hah i have like 1 or 2 safeties and then 13 reaches

6 safeties, 3 match, 3 reach

i guess i'll be very safe..

Oh my goodness, over 1k in application fees. This whole college deal is out of hand. What do they use that money for anyway? Dang it. We're paying them money so they can decide whether or not we can pay them an obscene amount of money for the next 4-8 years. I feel kind of... dumb.

I've spent approximately $500 on the common app schools today (7 schools).
I'm going to be spending a bit more on 4 more schools. :(.
I'm also in the moderately poor group that misses out on fee waivers and financial aid lol.

Well, it makes sense. Depending on the school you are applying to, there is an admissions committee made up of upwards of 30 people who need to be paid to do the work they do. Not to mention the clerks, students, and secretaries who also deal with admissions. Also, think about the plane tickets for admissions officers to visit your school, or to fly amazing students to the university, etc.
Admissions is costly.

That doesn't make it right. They ain't flyin' me nowhere, but I'm for dang sure paying enough for a flight ticket.
