Abbreviation Thread

“Washington (est 1861) - perhaps UWA or UWash (lol)”

Nope, wrong. It is U-Dub. The mascot is Dubs: http://huskymascot.blogspot.com/

But it is THE UW, since we go by who’s got the email addresses at uw.edu ;)

What is Yale-NUS?

From the Yale website:

NPC = Net Price Calculator

Down here its
University of Oklahoma OU
Oklahoma State University OSU
…those are the logos anyway.

NU- Northwestern University
NEU- Northeastern University

I always thought that when referring to colleges that it is best to first state the full name (and city/state if need be), then the abbreviation - refer by abbreviation for the rest of the thread. This would avoid confusion. The way it is done in a college paper, also the way they are identified on Wikipedia, for example.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Southern_California

University of Southern California (“USC”)

For the rest of the thread, it would be referred to as USC.

This whole time I thought USC was University of South Carolina…

What do D12, D15, D2, etc. mean? I see it EVERYWHERE.

D12 is daughter graduated in 2012. Get it? D2 means second born daughter. D1 is first born daughter etc.
S1 is first born son. DH is dear husband. DD is dear daughter etc.

UNCW - University of North Carolina Wilmington

Did D12 graduate from high school in 2012? Or college? Sometimes I can tell from the context but not always. Thx.

What are GH3 and HARP?

@Googie31 Yes D12 means graduated HS in 2012. This years crop are D/S16.

@KinglyBill Home Affordable Refinance Program. Guitar Hero 3???

I’m seeing “LOCI” in the waitlist threads now. Assume it means something like Letter of Continued Interest?" Is ther something labelled that in waitlisted “packets” to fill out, or do yo just write a letter? (D has three WLs and I haven’t seen something labelled LOCI that I recall, yet.)

I wonder if D212 might mean "second daughter who graduated in 2012? Or should it be D2U12 as second daughter who graduated with undergraduate degree in 2012? Just kidding:)

Ah, this is a very helpful thread

I’ve seen “swj” twice in posts. What does it stand for?
