Abbreviation Thread

Repeating for clarity:

CC - community collage

CC - collage confidential (aka this site)

CC - credit card - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20090968/#Comment_20090968

Do the folks in the know on CC know if you can pay for CC with a CC?

I saw this a lot when I first started on CC, SIR - Statement of Intent to Register

An earlier poster correctly identified U. of Missouri-Columbia is “Mizzou,” but incorrectly referred to it as UMO and UMOC (although maybe that’s an abbreviation people have used here???). Mizzou is also referred to as “MU,” though that abbreviation is not often used (have heard some Mizzou folk say MU).

I attended Mizzou for doctoral study, so that’s why I know. Mizzou or MU. Everyone wants to save keystrokes, but Mizzou would cause the least confusion.

More abbreviations:
OOS = Out of State
Us = universities
NSE = National Student Exchange
WUE = Western Undergraduate Exchange
These are two programs that enable students residing in qualifying states to apply to participating Us to go to OOS Us at lower prices than the regular OOS rate. There are other programs like WUE in other areas of the US.

This is so helpful.

I couldn’t find REU: help!

This isn’t college-related, but what does ‘DS’ mean when people on here talk about their kids?

I think darling son or dear son

Or “darned son,” sometimes!
