Abbreviations and Acronyms

I started this new thread to get this topic off the CC Orientation Dinner List.

To parents of incoming cadets, as new parents of a cadet, we joined the Association of Graduates, as parent members, for a flat fee for the four years of our cadet’s time. (NFI here). (I think it was $180 total)

There are two perks of special interest to me for being a member of the AOG.

One, a 15% discount for all things purchased at the AOG or the Visitors Center Store or the Cadet Store under Vandie when you are there visiting or online. I have a lot of AFA clothes. The store under Vandie is only accessible to parents during PW as I recall. Could be mistaken. I have probably gotten my membership fee back already for the discount privilege. Sad.

Two - you get a yearly Parent Handbook, sponsored by the AOG, at the beginning of the year and it contains all the important calendar/calendar dates, contacts for all the AOC’s, contacts for all the academic departments, other departments, clinic, etc. the list of squad insignias, cadet ranking information, and a lot of the “printable” abbreviations pertaining to the Academy.

Oh, yes, forgot about the Checkpoints Magazine which has some really neat articles on the Academy life, cadets and beyond.

I don’t know if all parents get this handbook courtesy of the AOG but it is something I would hate to be without.

Yep, between that handbook and all the stuff my mom reads online, my mom usually knows as much cadet lingo as I know. Personally, I think that's kind of cool, since my mom always knows what I'm talking about when I say things like "we have a triple threat this weekend". It keeps me from having to explain too much and confuse her.

It also keeps you cadets from being totally frustrated by the mom always saying, "What? What does that mean?" LOL

And, for those of us who have very busy cadets who do not tell us everything (actually not much of anything) all the time or cadets who don't think it is important for us to be informed 24/7 or for those cadets who go, "Geez already, o.k., I'll see what I can do."

And lest we be viewed as complete helicopter parents and have to get our information elsewhere, it keeps us from hearing you cadets say, "Where did you hear that?" "Why do you want to know?" :) :)

See, it's a win/win situation.

This list is a good place to start. ;)
