I am currently really interested in International policy and am interested in applying to School of Foreign Service, but what happens if I attend Georgetown and a year in I decide I want to major in Government or something else in the College instead? Is it easy to switch between schools or not? I don't really want to lock myself into SFS because there's a high chance I would change my mind once in college. Thanks!

I had precisely the same question. I am just filling out the first form on the online application, and wish I could indicate that I would be happy with either or that there was some “undecided” option.

Aren’t there any undecided students at gtown? Surely there are atleast some who later decide they want to major in business or intl studies and then later transfer to the appropriate school.

There are plenty of undecided students, in fact, most students don’t choose their majors until the end of sophomore year. However, you have to choose the school you must be “undecided” in. I believe it’s a little difficult to transfer between schools in order to prevent people from applying to an “easier” school, but I’m sure it’s not impossible.

Actually, transferring between schools is relatively easy. Just a few forms to fill out. The thing is, transferring from the College to SFS is significantly much harder than vice versa. SFS has a really difficult core, proseminars, etc., and you would really need to play catch-up if you didn’t transfer ASAP (you know, like the summer before Freshman year)… transferring even a semester into your first year could prove to be really difficult just because you would have missed out on a lot of SFS requirements.

Okay this is really helpful… but I can’t decide… Grr this one will be a toughie, especially since my dad isn’t too keen on me being in political-y things… :/

Your father shouldn’t be much of a factor in which school you go to… unless he pays for your tuition. But if he does insist that you stay out of “political-y things” and you prefer SFS, just tell him you’re the one who’s going to be taking the classes and whose life and career will be significantly affected by the choice.

yeah I know, but I’m not completely sold myself, which is why its really hard to decide which to apply to.
