Abort, Retry, Fail?

Applied to transfer to Harvard last year, considering trying again... currently at a very good non-American school, but do not feel intellectually challenged there.

ACT: top 1%
SAT: 730 range (Math IIc is in there), probably 800s if I pass again, though not sure it's worth it...?
Teachers convinced I should get in
Top 10% in a very demanding high school - I don't even know if this is something to be proud or ashamed of... :)
Terrible college grades - burnout, lack of interest, family disputes
Evident mainiacal passion for what interests me - e.g. soon to begin a voluntary research assistant position in very specific field
Interviewer (for previous application) later told me he thought highly of me

If there is a 5% chance of my being accepted, I'd give it another go. If you wisemen out there think that's ridiculously optimistic, let me know and I'll find another way to fill my free time :)

"Teachers convinced I should get in"

That's a pretty good sign that you are getting bad advice, especially if your grades are terrible. Let me guess. . . very few, if any, students from your school have ended up at HYP in the past. (Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd bet $20).

Your college grades are important when you apply to transfer. You have nothing to lose by applying. . . go for it! But put most of your energy to repairing your transcript or excelling in your ECs so you have good post-college opportunities. I think you are still a long shot. . . anyone with less than awesome grades is a long shot.
