A lot of people have told me that I need to have ECs in high school geared toward the subject that I want to major in (history). I don't know any kind of EC that is history-oriented :(. If anyone can tell me what I can do, that would be great. Thank you.

The people are wrong. You don’t need ECs to get into college. The overwhelming majority of colleges in this country make admissions decisions based on one’s stats --and for public colleges-- your state of residence.

The few colleges that factor ECs into admission are places like Harvard that can use ECs and other factors to pick and choose from their overabundance of high stat applicants. Such colleges know that most students change majors at least twice while in college. The colleges don’t care whether your ECs match your prospective major. They care about your depth of involvement (i.e. your impact – awards, projects organized and created, etc., NOT the hours you put into your EC) in your EC.

Right, but if I did want to do something history-oriented, then do you know what I could do?

History fair-- if your school has one.
Going over and above what’s required for history term papers.
Taking history classes over the summer at your community college.
Researching your family tree.
Becoming involved in the American Historical Association
Getting involved in Civil War/Revolutionary War reenactments
Becoming involved in your local geneological society or historical association
Volunteering at any local museums, etc. that have to do with history.
