About Brown Admissions

Hi everyone at CC.

My name is Eddie and I graduated Brown in 2008. I might be playing with fire with this post, but since 2004 I’ve been on and off this site looking for some useful information about Brown and other schools and I’ve been bombarded with “what are my chances” posts.

To be honest, the average reader of these forums does not know. No one knows! The admissions teams at any university is not 100% secure in job placement (meaning they might stay on one year and leave to another school the next). So, if you have a kid with awesomeness written all over him or her, one counselor one admission cycle might like him or her while another counselor might pass on the same applicant during another admission cycle.

I guess what I’m trying to say here is this: please stop stressing and enjoy your high school years. If you really want a good sense of “where you stand” check out the latest information about the previous entering class. You can get a sense of what they typically admit (and even then it’s mostly quantitative data).

I recommend using this forum to ask meaningful questions about academics, student life, university resources, and the like.

No need to respond with a thread, but for all you kids out there, trust me (I’m a teacher) enjoy your years and do things that are meaningful of your time!

As a Brown hopeful, I understand that other hopefuls are in need of reassurance and encouragement and that is why there are so many chance me threads out there. The reason I have never made one is because I honestly think that anything is possible. Everyone is different and either you get in or you don’t, there really aren’t any right circumstance to be in, in order to be accepted.

Anyway, I just wanted to respond, and the reason that I have started looking here around CC is because I do want to discuss Brown (my top college choice) with other and to expand my knowledge on the place. Speaking of which, as a Brown alumni, maybe you can tell us a bit more about your experience there? The only person I was able to speak to about the college who had first hand experience was my interviewer but she had graduated in 84’, I imagine things are a lot different since then…

thanks!

^^ I agree completely.

I loved Brown. I really really really did! I honestly grew so much as an individual and recognize my potential for group collaboration. I left Brown knowing that I wanted to learn so much more!

Socially, I did well. I developed amazing friendships that I still keep strong today (I’m spending my spring break in Providence!).

My professional relationship with my professors directly impacted my academic view of the world. I just graduated from graduate school (going back again) and I still go back to my Brown professors for advice.

Brown’s community promotes a strong sense of academic accountability and risk taking. I took classes that I was academically interested in and I was challenged in so many ways.

Sorry, I would love to give a longer response, but I’m on my off period!

Eddie, your post only made me love Brown even more! sigh I hope & pray I get accepted.

It’s so lovely to hear about positive Brown experiences. 6 more days til decisions come out and I am just trying to stay encouraged!

Finally, more people who realise the true uselessness of “Chance me” threads. Thank you for this post.

P.S $20 says Eddie’s an admissions officer in disguise  haha. Kidding… or am I?

You would lose that bet my friend!

LOL - I’m actually sitting and grading papers! Two more days until spring break!
