About how much longer should I be waiting?

"Your application is complete, all of your required materials are here, and we are reviewing your credentials. A decision will be available here as soon as one is made."

Applied October 1st but it took a couple weeks for them to receive my transcripts because my school took so long to mail it out (wont let us mail our transcripts out ourselves). Anyway, just recently changed my major from Business to Undecided (the stress of getting into Smeal was killing me). How much longer do you think it'll take til I get a decision? Experiences? Penn State is my top choice so I'm so anxious to hear back!

This is so much a numbers game. Decisions start going out the beginning of November. Two data points, if you’re a top 1% student you’ll hear within the first few days of November. Just a guess on the rest but I’d say if you’re in Penn State’s top 25% by mid-December, top 50% by end of January, top 75% by end of March.

It seems to follow a similar pattern every year…the very high SAT/GPA people hear first, usually before Thanksgiving. Many people at the lower end will be denied or offered admission to a branch campus around the same time.

Then, they seem to work their way towards the middle. The people who are border line hear last, usually around the end of January. My daughter is border line, so I told her not to expect to hear before then. Good luck!

Ahh the wait is really gonna kill me! But thank you!

I applied October 2nd, ACT 35. Do you think I’ll hear soon?

No idea! I know a guy with a 3.92 gpa and really high sat (dont remember the exact number but it was well into the 2000s) who applied a month give or take before me, and he still hasnt heard back yet. He may have applied to the honors college though, so dont quote me on it.

I had all materials in on September 19th. 4.18 and 2160 SAT and I’m still waiting. We called and they said they can only guarantee a decision by January 31st but it could come sooner.

Ahhh! I really hope I dont have to wait that long the suspense is killing me since Penn State is my top choice.

It’s my number 1 choice too! Right now my status is the same as yours. The wait stresses me out every day. :</p>

I know! :frowning: But im sure youll get in, your gpa and sats are amazing!

Our daughter is a freshman at penn state UP. We were in your position just a year ago. Our D applied around this time last year and she heard back on Dec. 18th. I seriously think it goes by major. She is pre- med. Her friend that applied to Smeal found out sometime in January. And like the above poster says some have all their info in by September and are still waiting into the new year. Best of luck to all.

Also, officially you won’t hear until after the Nov. 30th deadline…but some outstanding students have heard in November. I would just try to put it out of your mind - expecting December for some, January/February for others.

Thanks to both of you! I’m going in undeclared which probably puts me in with the masses…but thanks both of you for your input and yeah ill try to check once a week rather than multiple times a day as I am currently doing.

Definitely don’t check multiple times a day, they only update the website once a day.

i applied last year in the end of october and got back my acceptance the first week of december but I know people who applied before hear much later. im not sure exactly what their methods are but I actually applied undecided as so your major probably doesnt matter too much. I second that only check once I remember they updated it in the morning and also people who had their logins change to branch campuses usually got rejected from main campus.

Wait what do you mean “had their logins change to branch campuses”? Sorry I’m a bit confused by that line, but thank you for the rest of your input!

sop52 - When your status changes from “a decision will be posted here when one is made” to " a decision will be posted in the coming days", if the picture and description of main campus stays the same, then you’ve been accepted. If the picture changes to the Littany Lion and a description of the branch campuses, then you’ve been turned down.

Omg thats so scary! But thank you!
