I applied EA so I should hear back around mid-December. I was wondering though, how soon after, (If I receive any) will I hear about a merit scholarship offer? Does it sometimes come with the letter, or a couple weeks after, months? Also, what kind of stats or numbers, etc would you say qualify for a decent merit scholarship? Thanks

When you get your acceptance letter in mid-December (hopefully… good luck!), you will simply be finding out about your acceptance. SMU tells you later on what scholarships you receive. If you receive multiple scholarships then several letters each with small scholarships may be stretched out over several months.

In regards to the numbers, the applicant pool is different every year so it’s difficult to say, “Oh, if you get above XX on your ACT then you’ll get $X,XXX in scholarship.” The admissions committee really takes a holistic approach to evaluating each applicant. Hope that helps!

Actually, merit based scholarships are included in the acceptance letters this year! All of the merit ones that are school wide like Distinguished Candidate or Provost. The big ones aren’t until much later when they get reg decision people and the individual dept ones are later as well. I already got a major one with mine! Best of luck!!

Yeah, sorry about that. We changed the process this year…
