i did not send my Jan SAT scores to any schools because I was almost positive that I did worse. But actually, I got 40 points higher (at least I didnt canceel my scores, i almost did) Should I pay the money to send them to schools now or should I just wait til I apply to send them? what do they do with them anyways?

I'm assuming your not a senior since you said you havn't applied yet.
Don't pay to send your SAT Scores right now. You'll most likely take SAT II tests in the future, and the SAT reports that you request from these test will include all previous test scores, including your January score. If you're a junior, have you taken the SAT II Writing yet, because that test is no longer offered and many colleges will require it (since it's now part of the new SAT)?

havent taken it but i have to take the new sat anyways

I'm confused. I'm taking the New SATI as a Junior in March. Should I specify a few colleges that I'm interested in and have Collegeboard send my scores to those colleges? What happens if I don't apply there next year? Someone please clarify this for me. Thanks!

When you ask the CB to send scores to a college, the scores are sent electronically and the college will keep them on file until/if you send in an application. Most colleges probably receive hundreds of score reports and sending in your scores early will most likely not be viewed as anything special.
As a junior, if you apply to some of the top-50 colleges, you will most likely have to take 2 or 3 SAT II tests. The score reports that you send after your SAT II's will include your SAT I score and this is what colleges will need before they make any decisions. In other words, sending scores out in March won't hurt, but it won't necessarily help you either, since colleges will also want SAT II scores.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification!
