I live in California and planning to get into UCSD or UCLA, but also thinking about going to community college then transferring...

Dude, I’m in the exact same boat as you, except I got a D in Honors Algebra 2/Trig. (I could still get a C… But I’d rather have the D and re-take it.)

I’m so freaking scared.

I have all the same courses for Sophomore year, too, except I took AP Human Geography instead of Spanish 2, and Academic Decathlon instead of PE. Are you applying to HYPSM?

^
Dude. Look at your GPA. That is HUGE overkill for UC San Diego and to a lesser degree UCLA and Berekly. Unless your only extra-curriculars were RuneScape and being able to open a ketchup bottle or something, then you are a shoo-in.

If he applys to HYPSM then the prep school “I took classes that are 10 times harder than AP and I also took twice as many as you did your AP” people will kill his spot.

If you put Runescape on your college app you’re an automatic shoo-in, especially if you’re ranked #1.

oh man that’s gonna be a big problem, that C will lead to an immediate rejection from basically the top 50 schools.

seriously, if you think one C’s gonna hurt, many of my friends will suicide because they’re all applying to like the top 20 schools… and if you’re just here to show off, plz ■■■■~

are you sure the C will even show up to colleges? it’s only first semester, and most schools’ transcripts don’t show individual semester grades, but the average for the whole year.

even if it does show the C, you got it up to an A, and your gpa is impeccable. if the only reason you aren’t applying to HYPSM is because of that one C first semester, you are an idiot.

well that happened in ur sophomore year right?
then as long as u do well in the nxt 2 years, isn’t that a good thing cuz u show them mad improvement???

Agreed. Colleges look at overall GPA, not “hey, there’s a weed in his sophmore first semester grade. Let’s pluck him out and plant someone else with 4.3 GPA instead who never got a C in his life and forget about this 4.7 GPA C-rated loser!”

Story: After i got that "C’ i was so mad at myself that i promised i would make up for it, which meant getting 5’s on AP exams and A’s on my classes… I’m not valedictorian though only top 4%. I have a few extra-curriculars, community service, and some awards.

The reason that “C” bothers me so much is that it looks so damned ugly and stands out on my transcript.
