Call from my DI daughter tonight. She wanted me to post that they know that mail is a problem. She has checked with all the Plebes in 4th Company and they ALL claim to have written home at least once! She has also threatened to IT anyone if she finds out they wrote or called girlfriend INSTEAD of parents!!! She's on your side - says most high school girlfriends don't last until Christmas no matter how many years they've been together! So be on the lookout - parents of 4th Company should all get at least 1 letter soon!

As far as the plebes receiving your letters, it is very sporatic, if you haven't written the Company on the envelope, or they have trouble reading your handwriting, it slows it down once it hits their mail room. Also, the Plebes do not pick up their own mail. They have a person that is responsible for picking up the mail for each company and delivering it to the Plebes ONLY ONCE A DAY. If it's not all sorted, that mail waits til the next day. (And if the person forgets to pick it up during the open hours, it has to wait.) This person also takes the letters from the Plebes and drops them off to be mailed.

Things will get better next week. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR PLEBE'S BOX #!!! They will start picking up their own mail too. This will speed things up a lot!

Atta girl ! Ummm. How will we get our candidates box #? Will they know it by the next phone call? Or is there another way we'll find out (Sometimes our parent's association is told, and they email us).

Whatever the right thing is, we'll do it.
I can wait patiently.
Errr. Ummm.
Well, I can wait, patiently is obviously hard for me.

KT2010Mom - THANK YOU....I've wondered what's going on up there. Sounds like many of us are not getting much if any mail from KP and especially 4th Company. Plus there are not many pics on-line of 4th Co, so we really feel in the dark. I've received one very short letter over a week ago. I'm trying to figure out if he's writing other people or just not writing at all. Do they have much time to write?

Based on the letters I've received...they have about 30 seconds. If it was not for the check boxes in the form letter I'd know nothing! His handwriting looks like something .... well I don't know what, but can't read it! LOL.

There are very few pictures of 4th company. Can't tell you exactly why that is but we never seem to be where the people taking the pictures are. In terms of the mail....the candidates are getting it. I sorted 4th co's yesterday between the platoons and most of them had something like 3 letters from their parents (there was a ton), which obviously means that they are collecting somewhere before they get it to us drill instructors. Don't worry your candidates mail doesn't get searched, but if it is food we dish it out and hold on to the rest. (WE DONT EAT IT). We can get food whenever and have our own food stashed, so if you send your candidate food they will get it. Don't stress out over the letters they will have AIM within a week. So make sure you have a screenname and they know it. All the 4th co kid's are doing well....most are still in one piece...ha ha..

oh and they only have 25 minutes of free time...which they also have to use to do things like tack shirt pockets and iron.... you mothers should be proud that your boy's now know how to do laundry, iron, and sew...too bad we cant teach them to cook....

No actually, they only have 25 minutes "free time" and that is to be used to shine shoes, sew pockets on uniforms, etc. too. Watch time is not supposed to be used to write, but some do anyway. Lights out is pretty strict (she wrote under the covers with a flashlight one time).

But after this week you probably won't see any more letters anyway. When they get the computers they can email, IM (if they get AIM fixed) or phone calls when allowed. They still love to get mail on their end though. Especially cookies.
