Hi, I am studying sociology and I have a question about the prerequisite classes on assist.org.
PREPARATION FOR TRANSFER AT THE JUNIOR LEVEL:
Complete the following lower division courses or their equivalents:
- Sociology 1 (Introduction to Sociology);
- One course in either statistics or logic.
NOTE: Although some community college courses offer the equivalent of Sociology
5 (Evaluation of Evidence), most do not. It is recommended that transfer
students take Sociology 5 in their first semester at UC Berkeley unless it is
available at their community college.
Plan to complete any remaining prerequisites during your first semester at
Berkeley. All three prerequisites, along with a minimum 2.0 cumulative gpa, are
needed to declare the sociology major. You may declare the major while the last
of your prerequisites are in progress at UC Berkeley.
SOCIOL 1 Introduction to Sociology (4)|SOC 1 Introduction to Sociology (5)
SOCIOL 5 Evaluation of Evidence (4)|SOC 10 Research Methods and (5)
| Designs
| Same as: PSYC 10
STAT 2 Introduction to Statistics (4)|MATH 10 Elementary Statistics (5)
OR | OR
PHILOS 12A Introduction to Logic (4)|NO COURSE ARTICULATED
Note: A score of 4 or 5 on the AP Statistics exam will satisfy the
Statistics/Logic prerequisite for the Sociology major.
Other courses that satisfy the |PHIL 7 Introduction to Symbolic (5)
statistics/logic requirement for the | Logic
Sociology major |PSYC 7 Statistics for the (5)
| Behavioral Sciences
| Same as: SOC 7
These are the prerequisites for my major and I understand that I have to take both SOC 1 and SOC 10. But I am kind of confused about the statistics/logic part. Do I need to take all these MATH 10, PHIL 7, and PSYC 7 or do I need to take only one of these three? Please help.
