Sociology CCC transfer to UC tips?

Hi! I’m currently a freshman at a CCC declaring sociology as my major! I’m hoping to double major, however, I’m not really sure about what I’d want to pursue yet.

Sociology transfer threads to UCs are somewhat a rarity on here from what I’ve noticed, so I’m hoping to gain some tips/stats from those who have gone through the process and are now at a UC.

The UCs I’m planning to apply to in the future are UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, UC Los Angeles, and UC San Francisco.

I did terrible in high school due to a series of tragedies/loss and overall carelessness/laziness, but I’m confident in utilizing my time at community college as a second chance. Though I’m only in my freshman year, I’ve gotten straight A’s and that’s something I’ve never done before!

Cheers to being a transfer student :), thanks for the help!

  1. UCSF is a professional UC school. I don't think they have an undergrad program.
  2. There isn't much of a thread for a specific major.
  3. Get A's in IGETC and major requirements - find your major requirements via Assist.org

Yup as the above poster said you can’t get into UCSF for undergrad. I didn’t apply to UCSC so I only know about UCB and UCLA, and soc is non-impacted for Berkeley while it’s impacted at UCLA. Impacted, if you don’t know, means that there are way more applicants than seats available. However, both of the schools’ prereq requirements are the same I believe for the Soc major, which means you can “double dip” in a sense. Since Soc only has 2 prereqs, try to get your English and math requirement for the IGETC done ASAP. It’s better to have those done sooner than later. Also for the math requirement, consider taking stats. it can be used to fulfill both IGETC and prereqs so less courses/math for you if you choose to go on that route! It’s super competitive so try to keep a 4.0, but it’s not the end of the world if it doesnt happen. Consider joining the honors program for TAP certification, especially since Soc is generally one of the easier majors.

Fill your pre-reqs, finish IGETC strong, do everything by fall of sophomore year, and have major related ECs and you’re in.
