Hi! So I applied for Fall 2019 at UCSD with a sociology major but I am primarily a psychology major who is aiming for UCI and UCLA. But I would still like to be accepted to UCSD, I just couldn’t focus on the requirements for psych (I’m a one year transfer) so I decided to change my major to sociology which is easier and doesn’t have nearly as much major prep. I was just a little confused on the major prep. I am pretty sure they don’t require the completion of pre-reqs for sociology. Can someone here confirm that? Also, because I am a psych major, the only class I am able to complete is SOC 1 which I am taking this upcoming spring quarter. Will that be a big negative impact on my admission? It says on their site that it is not uncommon that accepted sociology transfers don’t finish pre-reqs. Thank you!
Note from UC Forum Champion
I’m going to try and move this to UC Transfer Forums so you can get an answer.
Okay, well I can’t move it.
So you have nothing done but one in-progress? Hard to say. However, UCSD is one of the UCs that is the most lenient regarding requirement completion, or so I hear. If you have a fair number of psych-related, it may be okay. But we aren’t admissions. It might have been wise to add a summer course of one of the others, so UCSD can see you plan to take it. Sometimes they add it to the provisional acceptance (completion of summer course). You could add it and send UCSD an email through the portal saying you are taking Soc __ in summer. You can flat-out say you have a mix of Soc and Psych majors in your application. This at least alerts them that you’ll complete another req, and frankly, always better to complete as many as possible at a CCC to save tuition or an extra quarter at the UC.
@Ohm888 I just registered for spring quarter classes yesterday and I decided to take another pre-req course for Sociology. So should I send an email to UCSD through the portal and update the TAU bc now my class load is different than what I said I was going to take originally.
Yes, do both. And send to each UC, not just UCSD.
@Ohm888 Will my TAU be regarded as late? Or will they still see that I originally updated it on time.
@npound based on what I understand, the TAU deadline is met as long as you submitted it at least once before the deadline. You can keep updating it after.
Agree with @jeetusSwo. They consider the first entry as the start-off, so it’s fine.
