So due to some complications, I ended up registering for classes pretty late and was waitlisted for a lot of the ones I needed. I was able to get some of the classes I need, and I have back-ups in case the waitlists don't work out.

I'm not asking you to predict my chances of getting off the waitlist, obviously. But it would be nice to know from personal experience how successful you've been :)

Anyway, here's where I stand:

1 (class of 25 people)
3 (class of 165 people)
25 (class of 80 people, but when I check details it says 69 are actually enrolled... so I'm guessing those high on the waitlist just haven't gotten around to accepting their spot in the class? But yeah, I'm not getting my hopes high for this one)

The same thing happened to me! It’s frustrating isn’t it? What are the classes you’re waitlisted for? Because it really depends on the class and how popular it is.

I think they save some slots for people in special programs/certain majors/etc., and if nobody from those groups takes those slots they go at the end of the first week of classes to people on the waitlist, so that may explain why only 69 have registered for the 80-person class. They would probably take eleven people off the waitlist at the end of the first week, so stay on the waitlist if you really want the class, as other students may leave the waitlist before then.

Also, I think if the class has a lecture and discussion/lab, then you will get in the lecture (regardless of your waitlist position in the lecture section) if you make it into one of the discussion/lab sections. So if you really need one of these types of classes, sign up for a discussion/lab section with no waitlist or a small one. The discussion/lab sections that meet on Fridays usually have the shortest waitlists as many don’t want a Friday class.

People don’t accept the entry from the waitlist, they are moved up automatically when a position opens, so the vacancies do not have anything to do with students not having accepted a place off the waitlist. Some slots are probably just reserved to give more time for students from special programs/certain majors/etc. to register for the class.

LoonLake: I’m waitlisted for CMLT-BE 146 (which is a 2 semester class, had I had known that I never would have taken it, ahahah), J110, and M-A118 (which I am taking because I didn’t exactly succeed in Finite and this class still applies to my major luckily. But the waitlist is the biggest one).

Thanks for clearing that up bthomp1. I moved up to 15 on the A118 waitlist, so yay! I take that as a positive sign. :)
