hey, im about to apply for college but i haven't taken 2 years of language(I kno this limits my college options by quite a bit). some colleges say that if your first language is not english then you can take an exam to get by that or something like that. what does it mean by your first language? because my first language wasn't english but i started speaking english when i was fairly young.... so im wondering if this counts.... sorry i didn't explain myself very clearly. any help is appreciated =)

Hmm. I'm in a similar situation than you, only I don't live in the US so I had to take an exam to prove I'm fluent in English :P (even though I speak English better than my first language).
I think what that means is that you can take fluency exams in that language... depending on what the language is there might be a test similar to TOEFL for it. If not, I'm sure there's some sort of test... perhaps like the SAT II's ? that you can take, and if you score a certain level then it shows your fluency in that area.
For example, I'm sure even if you didn't do 2 years of languages, but took an exam in a certain language and scored really high marks, this might be what the colleges are trying to say.
