I was centimeters away from hitting the mouse button to send in my SIR for UC Irvine, but imagery of UCSB and its lush and beautiful beach campus with its appealing Business Economics major prevented me from doing it...Any1 HELP and give me some advice. I'm really torn right now.

Irvine Pros:
-I know alot of people going there, i know vERY few people going to uCSB. (But then, its all about meeting new people, right?)
-Pretty rich city, employment shouldn't be much of a factor later on in life.
-Beautiful city, not just the campus
-Higher ranked in general than UCSB, 'fastest growing U.C'
-Have some relatives down @ Irvine
-Relative Low culture shock (YES I AM Asian)

SB Pros:
-The campus is stunning beautiful with the beach, yadada
-They've really been trying to erase the "UC-STD" image.
-Business Economics major supposedly strong (i am leaning toward this area of social science)

Irvine Negs:
-Its really far from the Bay Area (where i live)
-Social Science area not that strong?
-The school is still relatively 'unknown' to use as cred.
-acceptances higher than SB

SB Negs:
Surrounding cities are ghetto.
I dont know any1 at sb.
People party alot
More culture shock for me(Cupertino has alot of asian people.)

thanks for taking time to read this.... ANY FEEDBACK would be appreaciated. thanks!

Meh..you're just gunna have to make a call and roll with it. That's what I did when I was deciding on college--had a couple of good choices and just went for it. Whatever you do, do it and don't look back.

UCSB does have a beautiful campus...can't deny that. As for the Biz Econ major, you have to really look at the difference between that major and the Econ major at UCI (which I'm assuming you're majoring in). Have you really looked at the curriculum, or are you just drawn to it because it has the word "business" in it?

Hmm. A life at Cupertino is...very different...from Santa Barbara.... As for UCSB fighting off that "UC-STD" thing, I'm pretty sure it doesn't erase the fact that the party life is not common there. I'd personally go to UCI.

iloveants,
have you decided which UC to go to? My D is in the same situation deciding
between UCSD, UCSB, and UCI. Hopefully, as Sonic One said, UCI's new business major in 07 might tip the scale. About a week left, good luck!

thanks. after visiting UCI, im pretty sure im going to send in my SIR to uCI. but UCSD is alot more prestigious then UCI, in MY opinion, it'd be better if she went to UCSD. pretty sure no1 would dispute that.

Even on the final time, it was HARD. I have no idea if this school will actually make me happy, or if it's right for me, but from what I saw on the trip I can only ASSUME I'll be right.

Thats what everyone does when they choose their college; no one knows if they'll be happy or not but they have to hope for the best.

I'm still having second thoughts and I've already been committed for 3 weeks, and cancelled all my other offers of admission. I'm sure I won't even be sure if it's the right college for me until the first month of school is over.

So don't worry. It happens to everyone. Just choose to go where you assume you'll be happy. You may be wrong, but, thats life.

I actually don't think you should use acceptance rate as a factor in comparing the two schools. Doesn't it depend on how many people applied this year to each school, and how many open spots there are for freshmen in each school?

But anyway, I had the exact same dilemma as you did when I got accepted into UCSB (already got in to UCI). I'm also an Asian living in NorCal and one big pro of UCI for me was the fact that I would feel comfortable there because of the low culture shock

"as of last month, the board I sit on for undergrad to grad relations between the business school and UCI has announced that there should be an undergrad business major coming in 2007. Its not official, but that is the word."

Hopefully there will be a business major in 07.
