Hi everyone. i have my doubts about if i have to take the toefl exam. I am a us citizen but i am living en peru right now. I was born in california but at the age of 5 years i went to Peru to stay (all my family are from Peru) So i want to go to us and continue with my studies (I have already finished highschool in Peru). So my doubt is if i have to take the toefl test. Ah and english is not my native language (Sorry if i made a mistake), it is spanish. Another thing i want to ask you it is about the ged exam, i know that it is for people who didnt finish school, like my case (I havent studied in usa) so how is the ged proccess? Thanks a lot for reading this and pay me attention. Saludos desde Peru!
Yes, GED is for people who did not finish highschool.
If you finished highschool with a diploma, a transcript, or some kind of certification in Peru then you don’t need GED.
You need to take TOEFL.
agreeing with @coolweather…
Most colleges and universities in the US will require the TOEFL, IELTS, or another exam as proof of proficiency in English.
To get help, contact the EducationUSA Advising Center that is closest to where you are. There are several in Peru. https://educationusa.state.gov/find-advising-center?field_region_target_id=&field_country_target_id=272&field_center_level_value=All The counselors will be able to help you with the entire process. If no one in your office has worked with a US citizen recently, they have colleagues in other offices who have that kind of experience.
Wishing you all the best!
