i'm a freshman majoring in actuarial science at the university of illinois at urbana-champaign this year. i'm thinking about transferring to michigan next year. what are the requirements for transferring? is ACT/SAT required? (i didnt get accepted as a freshman because my ACT/SAT scores were too low) what GPA do i need to maintain in my freshman year?
thanks

The average transfer student GPA is a 3.6. I’d shoot for a 3.7 or more but I got in with a 3.5 (in state, though.) That was LSA though, I don’t know if other schools have different stats. I believe test scores are required but I was told by my school and by Mich that they aren’t given very much consideration, as with your high school record, as more emphasis is put into your college transcript. I am not sure how much weight your ACT/SAT scores would still hold after such a short period of time in college, I transferred to start my junior year here, but that is worth asking an admissions adviser. They have an online thing on the admissions website where you can chat with an adviser that I found really useful when I was transferring.

ok thanks!

I had a friend with a 3.6ish GPA transfer from Western Michigan University to U of M. I was kinda surprised, I thought it might be a little harder. I think with a 3.7+ you would be totally fine.

Off topic: Do you mind telling me what your ACT/SAT score was? I’m just curious because I’m applying to U of M this year, and I’m worried about my scores, but its fine if you don’t want to. Thanks!

ACT: 24
High school UM GPA: 3.7
Good essays and teacher’s rec letter
OOS

hows your friend’s ACT/SAT?

^Thank you. I’m not sure, but if I see him I’ll ask and post on this thread. I don’t think they’ll look at your ACT too much when you’re transferring, but it won’t hurt to retake it.

BTW, I visited UIUC earlier and thought it was great. You never know, you might really like UIUC and not want to transfer after all, but if you do, good luck!!

yeah i’m really liking UIUC actually, but the problem is i live in ohio which is 5.5 hrs of drive away from UIUC and only 45 mins of drive away from home, and my parents definitely want me to live closer to them lol. well thank you, good luck applying!
