About word count for University of illinois Urbana Champaign..

I have been working on their essays and it is really hard to keep things under 300 words.

For both of them I just really cant get it any below 350 words, and by deleting stuff, the essay is already losing its "beauty".

I am so frustrated with it.
I just want to ask how things will turn out if I just leave it like that, above 300.
The application system does allow you to put however many words you want in the space.
Would it be a big mark-off if I could not manage to get it under their requirement?

Someone please give me some advice, as well as how to cut your essays down. Every single line feels important to me.
Thanks in advance!!!!! ><

oh no…
:frowning: I really don’t know what to do.
It’s definitely not good to just send the essay out like that.
I did the same thing as you, combining sentences, changing the wording so I can use less words, deleting nearly all the adverbs/adjectives I have.
It’s ironic how before I started doing apps I didnt think I could come up with anything and now I just simply have too much to say.

Yeah I applied and had to trim one of my essays too. Have you tried trimming the conclusion? If you have then you need to reconsider what you think answers the prompt and what is extraneous in your essay. Otherwise, get help!
