I received an email from Michigan today about ABP (Amaizin Blue Preview). Any one from CC planning to go? Anybody from last year that can share some of their experiences with the program?
I’m planning on going. Although, I haven’t figured out how I’ll pay to get there yet.
@AcceptableName Have you contacted them about the travel funds? Says that its first come first serve. Maybe you could get some financial help from them
@MandomeLife Yep. They said they will get back to me in two weeks to see if I am eligible.
@AcceptableName Awesome! Whatever happens, at least we know that we got some kind of big scholarship!
If you want to go, register as soon as possible. Don’t wait for your travel plan to settle first. Seats are limited. It will be filled far earlier than the RSVP date.
@MandomeLife yep! Are you planing to stay an extra day for the Spring Welcome Day event?
I’m going! I was going to go to campus day March 28th but canceled to go to this instead. Also, my mom called the Sheraton to try and reserve a room for her and my grandma who will be coming along but doing their own thing and the rep said the Amaizin Blue registration was over and there was no more room for even students? Not sure if she was misinformed but we are waiting to hear back from the number the school provided since the school reserved a block of rooms for us. Overall- very confused so far aha since it’s also for scholarship recipients but was anyone else unaware that they received a scholarship until the e mail?
Sorry for the long post, but I’ve been scouring previous years threads to find info without luck! Hope to see you guys there though
@AcceptableName Yeah! I will most likely be staying overnight on Friday.
@Tayy27 That’s really weird. They’re probably misinformed, or ABP just got full. And yes! I was so surprised to see I got a scholarship. I’m so curious to know how much it exactly is. From what I’ve read in previous years’ threads, you’d have to have gotten a pretty big scholarship to be invited to this. My school – STAMPS College of Art and Design – apparently only had 5 scholarship winners of this scale last year. I’m curious as to how many they’ll have this year.
My daughter got invited to Spring Welcome Day only. Does that mean anything or is it just something everyone gets invited to?
There are a series of events for scholarships winners. ABP is just one of them, however, they may not invite each student to more than one event. As I have warned many times, space is really limited. My D also missed the registration a couple years ago. From the photos taken inside the Stadium, there were only a couple dozens or so students attended this each year.
Well I just checked into the date for spring welcome day, and of course my daughter has a big conflict so she can’t go anyway. /
@billcsho Where did you find these photos?
@MandomeLife I googled “Amaizin’ Blue Preview” and a Flickr link came up!
@MandomeLife It was on Twitter and other social media too. There is a group photo including organizers and student tour guides on instagram if you search on Twitter.
@madamelife … Where did you get that info about 5 Stamps scholarships? Do you know if they award smaller scholarships also? Are these merit based awards?
@busymd I got the info about the 5 STAMPS scholarships from the 2014 ABP thread on CollegeConfidential. That number probably varies from year to year.
I do think that the scholarships awarded to ABP participants are merit-based. In terms of STAMPS, ABP recipients received portfolio merit scholarships and portfolio/academic merit scholarships.
I’m not sure how large the scholarships are. A good person to ask would be @billcsho , I think, since they seem to be experienced with Michigan’s programs (in the application phase, anyway).
@busymd I did some research and I found out that STAMPS does offer smaller scholarships. From what they said on their website, they offer scholarships ranging from 1,000 to 20,000. They also award a scholarships for national Scholastics gold medalists and silver medalists.
@MandomeLife Thanks! I just looked their website. I always wonder what happens to scholarships that are awarded and the student doesn’t end up going to that school. Any thoughts, anyone?
