Absolute Indecision...any advice?

So as I mentioned in the other thread, I am torn between BC, Tufts, and Pomona. I am interested in premed studies, so I am really confused as to what I should do.

My biggest concern about Pomona is the social scene. I am the kind of person that would do better in city-adjacent campus, so that I can have the homey feeling of the campus while still having access to a city. Easy access, ideally.

Well, after doing a lot of research, I have read that L.A. is NOT all that easily accessible from Pomona w/o a car. I also heard that the last train from L.A. to Claremont is at around 8 pm, which does not leave for much time to actually enjoy what the city has to offer.

Does anyone have any advice?? I am really confused :/

I understand your indecision, DOI, but you might just be overthinking this…

Honestly, if you’re engaged in the rigours of a pre-med course, how often do you think you’re going to be leaving campus and wandering around a city – any city? On those occasions you do have time and want to go farther afield and into LA, it’s a simple matter at Pomona to use the Zip Car service and/or carpool with friends.

Believe me, you’re not the only student at the school who wants to sample LA. The only questions are: how frequently, will you have time, and is it in the end really a deal-breaker?

I agree with enkephalon – is it really a deal-breaker? Or do you want to attend the best of the three? Full disclosure: my son will be attending Pomona this fall and turned down a number of other great schools. He is excited to be heading off to such an amazing place. :D

To most people, this would not even be a question.

Pomona simply does not have easy the big-city access of BC or Tufts. If that is a deal-breaker, then so be it.

But if you have a friend with a car, at Pomona in February you can often roll out of bed, get in your shorts and flipflops, and be at a sunny warm beach in 45 minutes. Or, if you choose differently, in 45 minutes you can be on a chairlift on your way to 8,000 feet elevation to go snowboarding. Or you can just sleep in and dream about slogging your way through bitter cold and slush to a Boston pub.

ringer, you sure have a way with words!.. well said.
