Absolute Totalitarianism or Complete Anarchy?

^^^^Well, as far as nukes go, I bet there’s a hundred thousand cities higher on the target list than my town :P. Fallout could be bad, but there’s plenty of dirt around here. My area has enough farmland and wilderness to support a fair population, but nothing much at all worth the trouble of attacking. Most big-city bureaucracies would collapse without federal currency, but my town is run by… What, a sheriff, an engineer, a judge, and 5 council members? In my town if you call the courthouse odds are you’ll get the actual official, not his secretary. In a crisis these people could step up personally to continue the government unofficially.

@toxic: Well, in that case an anarchy would end the instant two people met up and didn’t shoot on sight. But we were already discussing the likely ways out of each situation.

Perfect real life example of anarchy: Somalia.

Anarchy is one of those things, as someone else might have said, that sounds wayyy better in theory than it will ever actually be.

Perfect real life examples of totalitarianism: Nazi German, the Soviet Union, and China under Mao.

Totalitarianism is one of those things, as someone else might have said, that sounds wayyy better in theory than it will ever actually be.

I disagree.

People are not unwilling to cooperate - they will cooperate when both parties have a common interest (or, at the least, when cooperation will lead to the betterment of one party - think symbiotic relationships). With that being said, humans are naturally and inherently selfish.

Taking away the concept of something does not change inherent human nature - we will still want ownership of something. Hence, regardless of which road humanity chooses, society will always return back to, at the least, a group-controlled government in the end.

Totalitarianism is absolute control by one person. How does that sound even somewhat good?

I didn’t say it did. But it still sounds better than it ever actually will be.

Complete Anarchy: Let natural selection rule again!

Absolute Totalitarianism

France has bothered me for the past few days. I guess I don’t like too much democracy.

I prefer order above liberty. I think the motivation for most people to not commit a crime is the consequence of going to prison.

Total totalitarianism sounds terrible to me, one person controlling everyone else… really?
