WHat's the best form of government?

In your opinion?

Me: I'd go with a liberal autocracy. Autocracies haven't worked well in the past. But that was the past. What about now, when humane treatment is valued? In an autocracy of today, I doubt that rule would pass on with bloodshed.

Democracy. I have had too many personal experience with the type of government that the kids in the US think works. First time in life I can go to bed without thinking some crazy crap might happen to me or someone I know.

best kind: what we have now, a democratic republic

worst kind: a democracy, followed up by fascism

socialist democracy

democratic republic

Practically speaking, I'd go with a democratic republic as well.

On a theoretical level, though, I'd like to see a system where, in order to be allowed to vote, you'd have to be able to demonstrate that you were informed- if only at a basic level- about government and current events. I don't want the people who don't know a thing about the way our government works or about the state of the world to be picking our leaders. Given how little our country seems to know about the Constitution (see http://www.constitutioncenter.org/CitizenAction/CivicResearchResults/NCCNationalPoll/TheAnswers.shtml for evidence of that), I'd like to see a way to stop those who are completely uninformed from voting. Or, with any luck, perhaps such a system would finally provide an incentive for those people to become informed.

I recognize that this would probably be impossible to implement in practice, but just as an abstract concept I think it's worth considering.

best: democratic republic, theocracy

worst: communism, socialism

screw democracy or communism or socialism people, comon lol!

the tarzan system baby!!

Here's something interesting:
[ul]
[li]Socialism - If you have 2 cows, you give one to your neighbor. [/li][li]Communism - If you have 2 cows, you give them to the government; and the government gives you some milk.[/li][li]Fascism - If you have 2 cows, you keep the cows but give the milk to the government, who then sells you the milk at a high price.[/li][li]Nazism - If you have 2 cows, the government shoots you and keeps the cows.[/li][li]New Dealism - (FDR Version) If you have 2 cows, you shoot one, milk the other one; then pour the milk down the drain.[/li][li]Capitalism - (Reaganomics) If you have 2 cows, you sell one and buy a bull; you then sell all the excess milk to the government who in turn ships it to fascist and communist governments.[/li][li]Anarchism - If you have 2 cows, your neighbor on your left takes one cow, and the one on the right takes the other; while your backyard neighbor takes the milk, the bucket and the stool.[/li][li]Utopianism - If you have 2 cows, Mother Nature zaps the cows, turning their udders into eternal milk-shake dispensers.[/li][li]Pure Socialism - You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as you need.[/li][li]Bureaucratic Socialism - You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and eggs as the regulations say you should need.[/li][li]Pure Communism - You have two cows. Your neighbors help you take care of them, and you all share the milk.[/li][li]Russian Communism - You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk.[/li][li]Cambodian Communism - You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.[/li][li]Dictatorship - You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.[/li][li]Pure Democracy - You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk.[/li][li]Representative Democracy - You have two cows. Your neighbors pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.[/li][li]Bureaucracy - You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. Then it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.[/li][li]Pure Anarchy - You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbors try to take the cows and kill you.[/li][li]Surrealism - You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.[/li][]Programmers-Trying-to-Meet-Year-2000-Deadline* - You have two cows. You keep them both, force them to produce the milk of four cows, then act surprised when they drop dead.[/ul]

Hahahahahahahahahah! That was great.

As an advocator of capitalism I didn't quite agree with it, but Pure Deomcracy and Bureaucracy, that sounds like the American government.

I don't know what the best form of government is. But government that governs least, governs best. Whichever that one is.

I think an elightened despot would be good, but the despot would have to be in touch with the people, just, and willing to degeate tasks to people would would enforce and enlightened policy.

Oh yeah and the despot would have to be elected by a board of people from all walks of life that represents the best intrests of the people.

Although this form of government is very idealistic and wouldn't work in a real setting.

Socialism in theory is by far and away the best form of government.

Practically, a capitalist democratic republic works best because it panders to human desires of greed best. A democratic republic allows for a society to elect the person they think will be giving them the most money and wealth and social status.

Socialism and capitalism are not forms of government, they are economic dogmas. I feel that multi-party democracies are best...although they can sometimes be annervingly inefective. As far as economic systems go, I like social capitalism (France, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Germany, Japan) best.

In terms of effectiveness, "democratic centralism" (ie Soviet Union) is the best.

How was it effective? It certainly boosted production of heavy industry, but the centrally-planned system failed to provide enough consumer goods and even things like food for people. Plus, there was nothing "democratic" about the Soviet Union.

In terms of government, i go with democratic republic, but one that doesn't get involved too much in the daily life of citizens. Economic system - i'm a firm supporter of market capitalism and free trade. In a market system, people, not the government, decide demand and companies provide the supply to make profit. This way, needs get fulfilled.

"In terms of government, i go with democratic republic, but one that doesn't get involved too much in the daily life of citizens."

Werent you against abortion and gay marriages?

A Utopia of course :P

Actually, a democratic republic or a socialist democracy.

Democratic centralism the pol sci term for it. In theory, the people were centrally represented. Since that is false, that is why it was in quotation marks.

The system is more effective since it avoids the debate in democracies. Am I saying that I like such a system? No. That doesn't change that it has merits, however.

In my opinion, oligarchies are the best form of governement. They just seem to make sense to me. :D

Cassiodorus, you simply don't make sense! Democratic centralism is "effective" because it avoids debates? So this means getting things done = effectiveness. If that's the case, dictatorships are the most "effective" because they do whatever they want whenever they want with absolutely no time wasted.

Anyway.. democracy/democratic-republic is best with capitalism or socialism. :o)
