AC units in Columbia housing

This question is geared toward some of the veterans (Denzera, C2002, Shraf etc). I just moved into my single in 47 Claremont a few days ago. Overall its a really nice room and a *****1n suite arrangement, but it doesn't have the air conditioning feature that i have come to love in Carman. I know housing says you aren't allowed ac units (window or portable), but in your experience what is the likelihood that i would get caught, and what are the repercussions? Thanks.

if your window is facing the street then your chances of getting caught are very high. If it is facing the inside (shaft) then not so much. If you get caught you might get a warning first or they might kick you out of housing right away. Of course if you don't secure the unit well and it falls out of your window you'll be in deep poop.

bottom line, get a fan and suck it up.

yeah, my window is on the shaft and hangs over a small area between the two buildings. ive only seen maintenance people move trash around down there. columbia housing says the ac unit will be confiscated and ill be subject to deans discipline and fines if its discovered.

You moved in already?! Euh....H-how?

i was in summer housing and signed up for interm, which runs august 15-30. they decided to put me into claremont, which is my permanent housing for next year. i basically paid 500 USD for the privilege of a 15-day early move-in.

Yo, just get a portable, a friend of mine lived in Watt for 2 years and did just that. No big.

portables are easier to move around and if you want to pay the extra $100, feel free.

I had a street-facing A/C unit in my Hogan single senior year and never had an ounce of trouble. on the other hand, me and the maintenance folks were tight.

i'd say put in the A/C. you should be fine.
