Please Help, I have recently been dismissed from a cuny college and I have received the letter stating that I have been academically dismissed because I have received low GPA at the end of my semester
The Letter states that I can indeed appeal before the end of july l the dismissal and get re-admitted back into the cuny college in the fall semester so I prepared a Draft of an appeal letter.
As you guys will probably read I had difficulty with balancing work and my studies with my father being ill and mother living abroad (complicated family problem) but my mother has decided to come back and take care of my father.
I tried to keep it as concise as possible and to the point. I briefly explained my situation and I tried to focus on all the solutions and what I will do differently going forward in my college academic life. I will also be attaching a personal schedule which describes what my study will be like and how much it has changed from my hectic schedule from my previous two semesters.
Please if anyone could review my letter as soon as possible ( I will be giving in the letter tomorrow) for any grammar mistakes and if any advice on how to improve the letter I would be extremely grateful.
Thank You guys in advance
My name is X and I am writing this letter to appeal my academic dismissal from the (Cuny College) . I am fully aware that my last two semesters here in (Cuny college) have been less than academically viable to attend the college and I take full responsibility over the poor performance of my grades.
I would like to briefly discuss my circumstances leading to such poor grades. I transferred from (Cuny College) due to my interest in the strong biology program available in (Cuny College). Once I was accepted into (Cuny College) and started attending classes my father who works as a taxi driver fell ill and was diagnosed with sleep apnea as well as developing symptoms of deep vein thrombosis. This affected how much he could earn so I increased the number of days I worked (as I do not receive TAP) to 40 hours a week to cover cost such as rent and food over the course of two semesters (2015-2016 winter/fall). During this time I struggled to keep a balance between my work and the focus I needed for studying. Class exams were poor and biology and math homework became increasingly difficult to complete. I simply could not keep up with the pace of biology and math classes during the two semester’s time with the amount of hours I took at my job.
However my situation has changed a great deal. My father has had his health improve significantly because my mother (who lived abroad) had moved back after a year with me and my father. My mother who I have convinced to stay, is now able to properly take care of my father as well as provide financial support. As such I am able to reduce my workload by half. I can guarantee that this improvement will allow me to reorganize the time I put into my studies. I also have taken necessary steps to prevent any family trouble to interfere with my studies such as convincing my mother to stay and take of my father. I have also made a significant change in my study habits and made a strict personal study schedule that I will follow rigorously. I am currently following this schedule in preparation for the Free Math 19505 College summer class which I have taken in order to move on to Math 205 in the Fall semester if reinstated. I have also been able to prepare for the biology course 10200 for fall 2016 semester because I have all course materials and syllabus which I am currently using to study in the summer. I completely understand the weight of my situation and should I be reinstated for fall 2016 I will demonstrate academic readiness. I believe that not only will I improve my grades I will excel in all my classes including my major in biology.
