Hey all,

I'm an incoming fourth year and I've just been kicked out of UCSB after receiving 5 straight F's. I'm not here to discuss the reasons behind this, but to ask a couple of questions.

First of all, does anyone have experience reapplying? I'd like to read your stories on this matter.

Second of all, if the Dean rejects my application for readmission, what's the best course of action for me? CC? Should I apply to other schools for the following Fall just in case?

I'm in a precarious situation and am in dire need of some outside opinions.

Thanks for your feedback in advance and I hope that everyone's having an enjoyable summer.

5 straight F’s eh? Sounds like you had a fun year, haha.

Anyways, I was in your shoes after last Spring, and fortunately was reinstated the following Fall. You have to write a paper (a “Petition”) to the College of Letters and Science explaining what your EXACT reasons were for poor academic performance, as well as EXACTLY what you plan on doing differently to overcome those difficulties if reinstated.

Example:
I had a difficult _________ [Fall/Winter/Spring] quarter due to:
- Demanding school/work schedule (Too many units taken at once or Too many hours)
or
- Learning/Medical disability
or
- Loss of a CLOSE relative

*Under no circumstances should you blame “Partying” because you will likely be given more time to “Mature”

Then you have to explain exactly how/why you were effected

Example:
I had 20 units, and 2 labs 16 hours a week didn’t give me enough time to properly study for all my classes. You tried evenly spacing out all of your study time but came up short.

Then you need to explain how you are going to change

Example:
I’m gonna take less units if reinstated, or hire some personal tutors. Maybe change your major to something easier or more manageable.

Wow that took longer to type than I thought. Anyways good luck with everything. I’m sure you will get reinstated again if you sound sincere enough, & by all means you should probably feel some sincerity considering the potential consequences of missing the entire Fall quarter. I know I did once I got my letter last year.

If you don’t get reinstated, then enjoy your time off, then pick back up in the Winter. It wont be the end of the world, it just feels like it lol.

Thank you very much for the reply. I’ll get to work on that letter ASAP.

I’m glad to hear that you were reinstated the following fall and I hope that it’s the same case for me. :D
