1) what does it mean by academic programs...like summer school college classes? or what about if i did research over the summer?

Hi, I have a related question (sorry, Magerie, I don't mean to hijack your thread).

I did research over the summer at Rice, and I was paid for my work too.

Do I list this under Academic Honors and Programs because it says to list any "independent research"? ...whatever that means. Do I list it in my EC's or do I put it in "Work Experience," since I was paid for it? Thanks

It probably does not matter where exactly you list it - I am sure it will be fine to put your independent research in "academic programs", even if it is not technically a program. But there is also a place where they ask you what you did during the summers. So you could put it there as well.

If you were paid for it, you can list it as "work experience".

But do you think that if my research experience was listed under "work experience," it would be less noticeable or have less of an impact on my application than it would if it were listed on the app as an EC?

I just want to put it in the spot where it is most noticeable to admissions officer since its the hook of my application.
