List Academic Awards and Programs??? What exactly goes under this.

<p>I'm filling out the Stanford app right now but I think this goes for the common app as well.</p>

<p>When I fill this out what counts as an academic award or program. In the small paragraph under this heading it says "List any academic awards or special academic programs (e.g., independent research, science, summer) since the beginning of the tenth grade, and indicate class year. Avoid using school-specific abbreviations."</p>

<p>SInce it says independent research would group research go under extracurriculars???</p>

<p>Also if I held a leadership position in the group research then how do I show that? Should I write it as an EC as well, since theres not enough space on the academic awards and programs stuff???

<p>You should list your research as EC (and mention your leadership position in the group research). If you got any awards for your research, put those in the awards section.</p>

<p>starting with 10th grade? that really sucks.... I got an Honors Algebra II award (which is a 10th grade class) in 9th grade because I was moved up in math... does that mean I can't write it down when I apply?
Why am I being punished for my achievements?!?!? Cruel world!</p>
