Help me. Academic Disqualification at UCSD.?
Hello, I am a first year at UCSD, first quarter I messed up on my Chem class, and then this quarter i messed up on my Calculus class. I know I know it's my fault. I was going through a lot of family problems at home and now I think I am on academic disqualification on my spring break. I don't know what to do. I am completely lost. I don't know how to tell my parents. I know I can appeal, hopefully. I took classes way too advanced and also my grandma died, my mom just got cancer, and my dad lost his job so I was going back and forth. I was also sick for 3 1/2 weeks and had difficulty getting to classes. Please someone tell me there's a way to appeal this. Please. Also, I just realized this isn't my major and I want to change it. I really need help and I am about to have a panic attack. I can't even enroll in community college classes because it's too late.

I’m really embarassed, I’m about to have a panic attack. Please please someone respond.

You should be calling UCSD and asking them. If you ask me, you have a strong case to appeal, but since it’s a consecutive quarter, i don’t know what will happen. Like I said, only UCSD can give you a straight up and legitimate answer. Whatever happens, just try to do good academically wherever you end up or end up staying for that matter. Hope you pull through. Good luck.

Thank you. Unfortunately they are closed today and I don’t know what to do.

Sorry to hear about your situation. 2 quarters of underperformance probably means you’re now subject to academic disqualification (STD). If that’s the case, you still have a chance to get back to good standing. I was also put on STD in my freshman year after 2 quarters of miserable grades.

Go undeclared if you feel burdened by your major, take 3 easy classes this quarter, and try to pull yourself together. If you need someone to talk to, UCSD provides therapists to its students. Evaluate your current environment (your current circle of friends, the people you live/study with, etc) and determine if any adjustments need to be made to ensure you perform well this quarter.

Good luck!
