Has anyone received any academic scholarship money for athletics? Scholarships that maybe the student didn't quite qualify for, but received because they were recruited by the coach? In other words, did the coach push admissions to award money for an athlete that the coach wanted? I've heard from some parents that this is the case at some schools. I've also heard of "leadership scholarships" or other similar scholarships that are given to desirable athletes.

I’ve heard numerous similiar stories on CC and here at home about athletes getting psuedo athletic scholarships to IVY league and NESCAC schools (Amherst, Bowdoin, etc) that the story tellers KNOW are true … why did I mention these two conferences; neither allow athletic scholarships and have league wide review processes to ensure that all financial awards (merit aid and financial aid) given to athletes are reviewed and fit within the awards of non-athletes … so those stories do not pass the sniff test! Is there some wiggle room? sure … but the CEO’s kid is not getting a fake full-ride to an IVY or NESCAC school.

For Clark, I do not know the rules of the NEWMAC league and if they provide oversite … but it is probably pretty easy to find out if you hunt down the league web-site.
