Academic Scholarships

Hey, I was wondering how common non-need based scholarships are, and some of the different qualifications for them. Have you heard of students getting a full-ride (or a big %)?

Only 1% of the entering students receive full rides from the University of Rochester. Most of the other scholarships seem to be $10,000 per year or less.

according to the website...

68% receive need-based aid
75% receiving some form of aid, merit and need-based

so I would estimate somewhere around the 20% mark get merit-aid

and like 1% get full rides based on merit, which is the ren. scholarship

but I'm sure there are full rides for need offered as well, but this is not an award, but a necessary way to get great students to U of R that might not be able to attend otherwise...

I was offered the Renaissance Scholarship and only 50 of the applicants are offered it according to my letter

Actually, only 10 students are awarded the full tuition Renaissance Scholarship. 50-60 students are chosen to interview for the award. They are given subsidies to visit campus for the weekend, stay with a student, attend some workshops and interview for the scholarships. My son was a finalist last year. He was eventually awarded a 1/2 tution scholarship.
